HVAC-R

The Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) field is a part of a growing technical trades industry.  This program is designed to provide the student with a fundemental understanding and working knowledge in the field of Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning, and Refrigeration. Students will study all phases of HVAR-R applications, fundemental circuitry, schematics reading, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and refrigiration systems. Students will be given the opportunity ot take the EPA certification testing on site (at an additional fee) as well as testing for field certification in residential, light commercial, and heat pump application.  Students will train in light commercial systems applications, in-depth trouble shooting of circuitry, mecahnical and refrigiration systems.

While in training students will be given the opportunity to learn the practical application or recovery equipment and other service tools specific to the trade. Students will also be allowed to choose specific areas of training, such as building energy management, sheet-metal design and fabrications, estimating and layout. Time will also be spent preparing for industry certification

This program is offered collaboratively with Mineral Area College. Classes meet Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday evening at the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center during the fall and spring semesters for four semesters.  The courses within the program are taken as a cohort with a new group starting every other year (Fall Semester).

Upon completing the four semesters of HVAC/R courses, a student mau obtain a certificate. By taking the required general edication courses, student may complete a Associate of Applied Sceince degree through Mineral Area College.  Contact and advisor with the Cape CTC to explore the options.

TO APPLY FOR HVAC/R - EVENING:

  • Apply to Mineral Area College at www.mineralarea.edu 
  • Pay the $15 application fee to Mineral Area
  • Forward high school and any college transcript to Mineral Area
  • Provide ACT or COMPASS scores to Mineral Area - COMPASS can be taken at the Assessment Center at the CTC, call to schedule an appointment.
  • Once fully accepted with Mineral Area, contact the a CTC advisor to enroll in classes and arrange financial aid, if desired.
