PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANTS

Physical Therapy is a specialized area of healthcare that involves the treatment of patients of all ages with physical limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status that may have resulted from injury, disease, or other causes.

Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) treat patients under the direction of a Physical Therapist, and use interventions to assist patients to move and perform functional activities with the greatest amount of independence possible. Examples of those interventions include:

  • Exercise
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilization
  • Endurance training
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Therapeutic application of heat, cold, ultrasound and electrical stimulation

Work as a PTA might also include performing basic wound care, work hardening or ergonomic training, gait & transfers training, or teaching patients how to use orthotics, prosthetics, or other assistive devices to increase independence. PTAs work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, home health, schools, nursing homes, and various other settings.

For specific meeting date & time along with estimated tuition & fees, please see the latest CTC Program Catalog
